REDLINING: A Historical Perspective (3 CE Hours)
This course explores the origins and lasting impacts of redlining and housing segregation in the United States. Through a historical lens, students will examine discriminatory practices that shaped access to housing—particularly for Black Americans—and how these patterns persist today. Topics include:

• The creation and use of redlining maps by the federal government
• The role of the FHA and New Deal housing policies in institutionalizing segregation
• The evolution of redlining into modern forms of housing discrimination
• The impact of redlining on generational wealth, community health, and urban development
• The responsibilities of real estate professionals in identifying bias, promoting fair housing, and implementing equitable practices in their work

The course encourages self-assessment and discussion, equipping agents to better serve all clients—buyers, sellers, landlords, and tenants—fairly and without bias.
