LAWFUL SOURCE OF INCOME, PROTECTED CLASSES, AND ACCESS TO HOUSING (3 CE Hours)
This course examines New York’s lawful source of income protections and their role in providing equal access to housing. Students will discuss housing vouchers and other lawful sources of income, the history of fair housing protections, and how discrimination can affect people seeking a home. The class also addresses protected classes, steering, redlining, and the barriers voucher holders may encounter during a housing search.
Through discussion of rental inquiries, advertising, communication with landlords, and recordkeeping, agents will consider how to recognize discriminatory practices and provide consistent, fair service to every prospective tenant.
